According to a network trends report from Handshake titled “Gender, Equity and Gen Z,” over half of respondents reported that they would not apply to a job or internship where they find that an employer lacks general diversity. Supporting students in identifying internship and job opportunities that provide an inclusive environment is the responsibility of all higher education professionals. Providing digital resources for students about how to approach the recruitment process with a company or organization, conduct research and ask meaningful questions of the interviewer in order to learn about their diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives is an effective way to help them find that environment. Join us to learn how the Stony Brook University Career Center educated students on how to identify employers that feature diversity and inclusion practices through the creation of a Diversity Employer Video Webpage showcasing industry partners and their diversity mission statements, employer resource groups and inclusive recruiting practices. This session will also review the creation of identity guide pages that teach students how to handle important issues and alleviate workplace anxiety as it relates to their identity.
