Nikki Massaro Kauffman is a Staff Design Engineer at Adobe, where she builds accessible web components for the Spectrum Web Components design system — the component library that powers Adobe's products.
Before Adobe, Nikki worked as a Principal UX Engineer for Accessibility at Red Hat and as a Programmer/Analyst at Penn State University, where she developed open-source web components to make online courses accessible, media-rich, and interactive. She holds degrees in computer science and education and has been working at the intersection of the two since 1998.
Nikki is a certified Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP). She has been a long-time contributor to the Digital Collegium (formerly HighEdWeb) community, serving on the Board of Directors from 2017-2022 and as President from 2021 to 2022. She has been presenting at the organization's events since 2008.
She believes that accessibility, higher education, the open web, and open source are all about the same thing: reaching more people.
