Document accessibility has become a hot topic in higher education, as universities work to ensure that all stakeholders including students, educators, staff and parents including those with disabilities, have equal access to information and resources online.
Ensuring document accessibility is particularly important in higher education, where people with disabilities are protected by laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 & Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. These laws require that universities provide reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities.
This presentation will focus on a university-wide strategy for document accessibility, covering key areas: planning, embedding the strategy across all departments, training people, and implementation by providing remediation on-demand & for legacy documents. The presenter will offer guidance on how to provide on-demand remediation for inaccessible documents and how to address legacy documents that may not meet accessibility standards.
Additionally, the presentation will offer guidance on best practices for ensuring accessibility of various formats, including SCORM, Articulate Rise and Storyline Courses, epub, PPT, PDF, Word, and other file formats.
