Description

Organizations are just groups of people hanging out doing stuff with other people, right? So why are the rules and processes established for the organization instead of the people? We focus on process and control. If it can’t be documented and replicated by different people, then it’s not “good for the organization”.

We (university web and digital) should be breaking new ground in coding, in content presentation, in analytics, in video production, in form design, in app development, in social media, in SEO, in writing. But we’re not. University websites are mediocre – your mileage may vary.

But we could be great.

There are three ways to define how your job can suck and three ways your job can be fulfilling and joyful. We’ll look at these six “buckets” and ways that you can get out of the suck and into the joyful. It’s science, not magic. You can do this.

If you love your university but not how you work, this talk is for you. If you lay awake wondering why you love your work but hate your job, this talk is for you. If your team is full of great people underperforming, this talk is for you.

One-third of our lives are spent at work. It shouldn’t be wasted, compromised or mediocre. You are far too valuable for that.
