Deep work for the big wins

Date & Time

Tuesday, October 31, 2023, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
(UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)

Description

Sometimes work feels like a game of whack-a-mole. You come in, you hit your inbox and Slack, put out fires, have a couple of meetings and suddenly it is the end of the day and you are wondering, “What did I get done?”

Neglected most in this situation are complicated, broad-scope, long-term projects. You know, the big wins — the projects that really matter. This was my work day, and I was inspired to change it.

I read Cal Newport’s “Deep Work.” Newport promoted setting aside a three-hour block most days to do quality, sustained work on just one project. I adopted a “deep work” practice and have seen big results!

Deep work has allowed me to take professional development courses, complete complicated projects more efficiently and have time available for those occasional emergencies. And the small things still get done — on my schedule.

In this session you will learn more about Newport’s deep work philosophy, how I set up and maintain my deep work schedule, how I got buy-in from my boss, my challenges and successes, and how you can do it, too!
