Join visually impaired, fully dependent screen reader user, Eric Yarberry, Digital Media Program Manager, Amy Cole, as they share best practices for accessibility audits. Attendees will learn how to utilize their campus community to incorporate live audits using local people who regularly depend on assistive technology or have special (physical or cognitive) needs. Not sure where to find live auditors? We’ll share tips on how you can find local resources in or near your campus. The presenters will also showcase common accessibility auditing software used by Universities and discuss how each creates vastly different reports. Attendees will learn how to identify which items are of the highest importance (from a human site visitor perspective) to better focus time and attention on the issues that matter most. Attendees will listen to a live demonstration with screen reading software, Nonvisual Desktop Access, which will highlight how accessibility auditing software either misses issues altogether or reports items that are not a problem. This demonstration will include discussing accessibility for web content, PDFs, image descriptions, and data accessibility.
