Description

People interested in web accessibility need flexible and resilient strategies to address the confusion, fear, or ambivalence they might encounter while working to achieve their goals. While institutions like universities develop communities over time, often those communities don’t overlap. They may be separated or unaware of each other. They may even have conflicting goals and objectives from each other. To achieve broad institutional goals we must learn to manage a wide range of expectations. As IT and Communications professionals, meeting people where they are allows us to find out what their priorities are and to learn from and work with them. At the University of Connecticut, we are working to enhance relationships between our departments and faculty, staff, and administration. When we act as neutral resources for our communities, they are empowered to make decisions with accessibility in mind. Over time, this results in a culture where accessibility is a norm. Learn about our strategies to break down barriers between groups in order to develop a wider, more accessible community.
